Focusing Our Brand Messaging

Welcome to Weekly Roundup #10 at ForecastOS! We're glad to have you here, following our journey :)

The ForecastOS Platform

The ForecastOS platform makes AI-driven forecasts easier to understand, backtest, and manage - whether you're an engineer, data scientist, or non-technical executive. Said another way, it makes ML pipelines more observable and understandable.

As such, our platform is industry agnostic, despite being (originally) built to help investors.

Our Lack of Marketing Focus

"A product for everyone rarely reaches much of anyone" - Seth Godin

Because we built an industry agnostic tool, our initial landing page copy tried to market to everyone. In hindsight, there wasn't much sense in that.

We initially created the software for investors and investment use cases. I come from the investment world. Our advisors are investors. Our customers are investors. It's investors all the way down!

Why did we feel the need to stay general in the first place? The finance industry is forecast to spend more than any other industry on AI/ML software (source: IDC Worldwide Artificial Intelligence Spending Guide, March 2023). Blackrock alone did US$1.4BN in technology services revenue in 2022!

We unnecessarily muddled our marketing message.

Our Ideal Customer

Last week, we fixed it (our lack of marketing focus). We clarified and reworked our ideal customer profile.

As you've probably guessed, our ideal customers are investors. More specifically, active investors. Those going above and beyond for their clients, constantly hunting for alpha in order to beat the benchmark.

Our New Landing Pages

We also reworked our landing pages to include this renewed focus. Our message is now clear: we help active investors beat the market for their clients.

Work: What's Coming Next

It's important to keep velocity high. We keep ourselves accountable by sharing what we hope to finish over the next week.

This week we will:

  • Build and release a structural risk model for InvestOS (ongoing)
  • Build and release a piecewise linear trading cost model for InvestOS (ongoing)
  • Improve our ReadTheDocs documentation and InvestOS guides (ongoing)
  • Release new InvestOS reporting functionality
  • Release a tool for de-risking capital deployment: v1 paper portfolio trading, reporting, analytics, and verification functionality. For testing investment strategy performance out of sample - using the same portfolio engineering logic as your backtest (ongoing)

Until next week!
